Chronic Fatigue

For many people, eating healthier, getting more sleep, and exercising regularly will improve symptoms of fatigue. But for some, these positive health changes are not enough to restore and revitalize their body. When fatigue becomes daily and unrelenting despite adequate rest, it is called Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). CFS is a nearly constant state of exhaustion that develops over time and diminishes physical and mental energy.

Chronic fatigue syndrome is a debilitating and complex disorder. Symptoms affect several body systems and may include weakness, muscle pain, impaired mental concentration, exercise intolerance and insomnia. Previously pleasurable activities such as social outings and basic daily activities often become severely reduced or stopped all together.

  • Muscle pain
  • Impaired mental concentration
  • Exercise intolerance
  • Insomnia

The holistic physicians at Health Momentum will first rule out any underlying causes of fatigue through lab work and examination. Once this has been established, a customized therapeutic program will be designed to reduce your fatigue and renew your body.

Chronic fatigue is often connected to adrenal fatigue (abnormal cortisol production) and hypothyroidism (low thyroid hormone production). To determine if you are suffering from one of these health concerns, salivary and urine analysis is available at Health Momentum. Other possible causes of chronic fatigue can be; iron deficiency, vitamin B12 deficiency, food sensitivities, compromised immune system or a diet high in refined carbohydrates.

Naturopathic Medicine

Vitamin B12 injections:
B12 injections increase cellular energy in a safe and effective manner in people suffering from chronic fatigue. Oral supplements are another option however, do not normally work as quickly or as effectively as injections. Dr. Cecilia de Martino, ND is the injection specialist at Health Momentum.

Dietary, vitamin or herbal therapy:
A combination of dietary modifications and vitamin and herbal support can be used to stabilize your blood sugar and optimize energy throughout the day.

Bio-identical hormone therapy:
Adequate hormone levels are necessary for the normal rejuvenation and regeneration processes of the body. As we get older, our hormone levels decline, causing a reduction in energy and stamina. Bio-identical hormone therapy replaces the necessary hormones that your body is now producing at a slower rate, returning your body to optimal health.

Stress management:
Stress is often the root cause of many health concerns. Stress management techniques improve many aspects of health by encouraging muscle relaxation, good sleeping patterns, detoxification, and neurological balance.

Detoxification can be incredibly beneficial for the revitalization and rejuvenation of the body. Strict fasting programs or quick fix solutions do not address the root cause of the issue and can create more problems in the short term. Gentle detoxification through diet and supplements are a more effective way of creating changes that will last.

Registered Massage Therapy

Massage is one of the most recommended types of alternative therapies to treat the symptoms of fatigue.  Massage is also a good option for patients suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome who are not well enough to exercise.  For exhaustive states, massage promotes circulation and flushes out waste products, leaving the body feeling rejuvenated and refreshed.
